Summer Decorating Tips for Your Rental Home

Summertime means you have some redecorating projects ahead of you. You want to feel like it’s a new season, not just the same thing all year all the time. Read on for some of our best summer decorating tips.

Focus on light

It’s cliche, but for a reason. Summer is bright and sunny, so reflect that in your decorations. Open the blinds more often, use brighter colors, and anything else you can think of to give a lighter feeling to your home.

Use floral designs and actual flowers

Bring some plants inside, see how they look. Switch the curtains to a more floral pattern. These add to the look of your home and a lot more, especially if you bring in actual flowers.

Don’t forget the scents

Flowers help your home smell better, but they’re just one way to go about it. Air fresheners help a lot, too. When you clean, finish up with something like Febreze to help the room smell great. A good looking home that smells bad will always be missing something.

Match the indoors and outdoors

This is especially useful if you have a home with a backyard, though even an apartment with a balcony can benefit from this. Rather than separating indoors and outdoors, make them flow from one into the other. Get some outdoor furniture that looks like the indoors and vice versa. The less it feels like there’s a barrier between indoors and outdoors, the more likely you are to take advantage of both.

Make use of a fireplace

You’re not going to need that fireplace this time of year, but that doesn’t mean you have to board it up. Put some flowers or other decorations in the fireplace, or some nice curtains in front of it.

Get inspiration from summer vacation rentals

Look at vacation homes online to get an idea of what decorations will work best. Whether you’re thinking beach home, a cabin or something else, look at what the professionals do. They know what looks best, so starting there is a great place to go for some serious inspiration.

Time to start gardening

You could just buy the plants you use to decorate, but where’s the fun in that? If you’re remotely interested in gardening, now is the time. Keep some outdoors and bring some indoors, depending on your preferences for each plant.

These are just the beginning. Whether you’re experienced or new to decorating, follow these tips for some good starting points for what to do.
